Lori Burke is Executive Director at Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design, a non-profit charitable organization who aims to grow the craft sector on Cape Breton Island and promote excellence in the field of craft and design through education, training, exhibitions and special events. Lori is an instrumental leader who plays a vital role in the community through culture, leadership and innovation.
Under Lori’s leadership, the Centre was awarded a Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s Crystal Award of Excellence in 2014 – the Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism Award – for the Visit the Craft Capital campaign. In 2015, the Centre was awarded Destination Cape Breton Association’s Small Business of the Year award. In 2016, Lori received Cape Breton Partnership’s Vital Cape Breton Excellence award.
Lori has a passion for community economic development, volunteering her time for the betterment of Cape Breton Island. She sits on boards including Craft Alliance ~ Métiers d’art and Celtic Heart of North America, as well as various committees relating to cultural development.
Lori holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis Xavier University, a Master of Arts degree from Waterloo University and a Master of Publishing from Oxford Brookes University. Lori is also a professionally certified chartered marketer through the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK.
