Working with new ideas and partners each year brings new ways to enjoy and explore the waterfronts.
The summer’s Free Lab project with the Dalhousie University School of Architecture resulted in additional, popular seating, near Sands at Salter. HFX Tactical Architecture draws inspiration from the relatively recent movement of citizen-led built interventions, more popularly known as “tactical urbanism,” which have sprung up across North America to improve local streets, neighbourhoods and urban spaces.
On the Halifax waterfront projects have included colourful bistro sets, waterfront hammocks, a community piano project called #PlayMeHFX, and various public art projects and events.
On the Lunenburg waterfront, public seating and open access to the boardwalk at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is complimented by an Atlantic Blue Whale themed mural.
A seasonal volleyball court, picnic benches and BBQ grills offer up a fun, family friendly spot to gather on the Bedford waterfront.
