Develop Nova Scotia, on behalf of Tourism Nova Scotia, has engaged in a Master Plan for Peggy’s Cove.
The Province of Nova Scotia is interested in improving the visitor offering and experience within the context of Peggy’s Cove as a living and working coastal village, with its authentic cultural and natural landscapes and sensitive ecological zones. While Peggy’s Cove has long been recognized as one of Nova Scotia’s most iconic tourism destinations (with around 500,000 people visiting each year), challenges in regard to traffic volume, pedestrian safety, servicing infrastructure, governance, and overall sustainably have existed for some time. A Comprehensive Master Planning process is needed to develop short, medium, and long-term strategies for improving and enhancing the Peggy’s Cove experience for both visitors and residents.
Develop Nova Scotia, together with a planning consultant, will develop the Comprehensive Master Plan in consultation with area residents and community stakeholders. Preliminary project planning is underway, with consultation with community residents and stakeholders expected to begin in February 2019.

Dartmouth Cove Master Plan
Waterfront Development led the development of the Dartmouth Cove Master Plan in 2012, with substantial community input. The final plan includes an internal street pattern and building parcel plan, pedestrian circulation system and public open spaces, general land and first floor land uses, building heights and setbacks, streetscape design and connections to adjacent areas, as well as site remediation and sea level rise implications.
The Dartmouth Cove Master Plan is a community driven plan and the time is right to begin implementation as downtown Dartmouth enjoys a resurgence of residential and commercial development. Dartmouth Cove can be an important driver of continued positive momentum in the downtown core.
