Four incredible waterfronts - Bedford, Dartmouth, Halifax and Lunenburg - set the stage for great Nova Scotia experiences year-round. It’s about people, partners and places.
With oversight and direction from a high-calibre Board of Directors, the Waterfront Development team focuses on Waterfront Planning and Infrastructure Development, Property Management and Business Development, and Community Use of Public Space.

The Big Belly systems feature a solar powered trash compacter and can reduce pick-up frequency by up to 85% meaning less emissions, reduced costs and Waterfront staff spending that time on other waterfront projects.
The project is a successful partnership between Waterfront Development, Nestlé Waters Canada, RRFB Nova Scotia with support from StewardEdge, Nova Scotia Environment and Halifax Regional Municipality.
Launched in August 2010, this 4 stream system (waste, recyclables, paper, organics) is one of greenest systems in Canada and meets strict HRM by-laws. Plus these systems are a favourite photo op for tourists!
Waterfront Development welcomed CarShareHFX – Halifax’s first multi- vehicle carsharing network – to the Halifax waterfront in 2010 with a dedicated spot at Cable Wharf. Members using a CarShareHFX can also park for free along the waterfront. Each CarShareHFX vehicle helps decrease road traffic numbers by 10 to 15 vehicles.
