The Halifax waterfront and downtown core are popular destinations for restaurants, market trips, sports events, shopping and live music. From waterfront events to shows at Neptune Theatre, nightclub acts and dinner al fresco – plus everything in between – we’re at the centre of it all.
24/7 waterfront parking is where downtown begins. Look for the blue P on Lower Water Street. Did You Know? Parking revenue is reinvested back into your waterfront.

Pay By Plate Technology on the Halifax Waterfront
We’ve rolled out new Pay By Plate parking technology on the Halifax waterfront in five of our six lots on Lower Water Street: Cable Wharf, Queen’s Landing, Foundation Place, Salter, and Bishop’s Landing.
What does this mean for our parkers? Convenience. Pay By Plate is simple to use. Just enter your license plate and follow the instructions on the easier to use screens. Once you enter your plate number, time and payment option, you are done. No need to go back to your vehicle to place a paper ticket on the dash. If you do need a receipt however, that option is available. Plus we’re working on added flexibility that will allow you to top up your parking no matter which lot you started in.
We’ll have some Ambassadors on hand for the first few days to remind people to note their plate number and provide any assistance required.
There is no increase in parking fees. Our rates remain at $3/hour, $16 flat daily rate (8am-6pm), and our nightly flat rate of $6 (6pm-8am), HST included. Our parking revenue is reinvested back into the waterfronts to support public projects and amenities as well as family friendly events.
Working with Nova Scotia company MacKay Meters, this new way to pay is a first here in Halifax, and on the waterfront. As the Municipality works to advance its plans for city-wide parking improvements, this waterfront installation provides an opportunity to test this new technology. We will share learnings with our partners including Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, Spring Garden and Area Business Association, as well as the Municipality.
In addition to providing a more convenient, easy-to use parking option, the new technology creates the platform to introduce a parking app that allows for remote top up to parking sessions. We will continue to engage our partners throughout this pilot season as we take steps toward developing and launching the app as early as this fall. Stay tuned!

Waterfront Development reinvests parking revenue into waterfront infrastructure, projects and events and for the public’s use and enjoyment. This includes the Halifax boardwalk, improved marina facilities, an innovative and efficient public spaces recycling program, and partnerships with groups like CarShareHFX to provide transportation alternatives.
